. but according to collective food banks in the bay area, nearly 730,000 people are using services the food banks provide. that is one in six bay area residents. lack of shipments from federal government is leaving some of the banks with empty shelves. it's happening as demand for food is especially high. laura anthony has details from the alameda county food bank in oakland. >> reporter: the empty shelves say it all these days at alameda county food bank. for the first time in long time they had to go without dloovgs of crucial items, like canned vegetables and frozen meats. the reason they haven't delivered commodities to oakland for two months. >> we only received an item the end of july. we are experiencing a a shortage that our clients are feeling. >> normally they would have about one million pounds of usda food on the shelf. now they are down to about half of that. it's the same story in contra costa which rely on usda deliveries. it's not clear if the food is being diverted or not being made available due to the drought in the midwest. but the reality is coming as demand and food and the

in the bay." >>> good morning to you, thanks for joining us. i'm laura gaurg-cannon. >> and i'm jon kelly. we have new details after a wild police chase ended in a heap of twisted metal and shattered glass. a drunk driver under arrest and we just learned a bicyclist has been released from the hospital. bob redell is live in san francisco with the latest on this wild scene there, bob. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, jon. yes, that driver chp tells us her name is serena borrows. she's a 23-year-old woman and they el us it's not the first time she's been arrested for dui. she ended up crashing her car here at 17th and van ness where she also took out a signal box, which is one reason they have flares set up in the streets because the lights are still out as the city of san francisco tries to fix the mess that she allegedly created. her first collision during this chase throughout the city took place not far from her, 15th and natoma where she hit a bicyclist. he was next to a car that she ran into. that car hit him and he was taken to the hospital as a precaution, minor injuries.

killed in the south bay will be laid to rest today. matt keller joining us live with more on the service and the update on the investigation there to the case. >> reporter: yeah. i checked in with the san jose police department spokesperson for the update on this case. they are still search for a second suspect or at least that's what was happening all this week as they released a sketch on that expect now hee mailed me back and said per the homicide unit we aren't confirming or denying any new information. that came after i asked them if an arrest had been made. >> the man was shot and killed last week. one of the suspects a 26-year- old was in court wednesday. police say he and another man robbed four businesses, murdered a 22-year-old in a carjacking and participated in a shoot out with two officers one of the officers was hit and taken to the hospital with minor injuries. willbanks was arrested the next morning. officers released a sketch of the second suspect, a 20,000- dollar reward is being offered for his arrest. the funeral for the victim is being held this morning at 11. we wi

a helicopter which illuminating the hillside. they used a he can-seeking mechanism -- a heat seeking mechanism. >> they found a heat source on the side of the hill. we had our rescue team repel down the hill to look for where the chp stated they saw the heat source and we found nothing. we have the sheriff dive team out here. >> it was very slippery. some of his men started to slip down the hill. they were tethered. the dive team is going into the water and two members will look around. it is unknown at this point how long they will be in the water. this is something they are used to and it is an all volunteer team. the fact that it is raining out and it is dark means nothing. once they get underwater they will try to find this victim. this quarry is filled with water . in some areas it is estimated to be between 40 and 80 feet. there is no current. it is surrounded. dive teams from the alameda county sheriff's department will be going in shortly. unknown how long they will be in the water. john alston, abc news. >> thank you. rain is coming down now in oakland and across much of the bay area.

: well, police know who they are looking for but they won't tell us any suspect information. they still do have this area at jacqueline road and esqella parkway blocked off. the officer was making a traffic stop and the driver started shooting at the officer. the officer stopped the car for a moving violation. the officer got out of his car and the driver of the other car did too and started to fire. >> he fled the location in his vehicle. >> reporter: again, you heard the driver took off. now there is a search going on for him. police have his license plate number and are trying to track him down. but again, they are not releasing any information about what kind of vehicle he's driving or any description of him. so people who live in this area are concerned. they say shootings usually don't happen here and they really would like to know some more information because at this point, we know that there is a man on the loose and he's armed with a gun. we're not sure if he fled somewhere in this neighborhood or if he's taken off to another city. we do know that this intersection will be clo
